Unico In the Island of Magic

Unico in the Island of Magic is another animation that I grew up with. My mom tells me that my sister and I watched our Unico video more than any other single thing that my mom had recorded for us. Even now I can watch it over and over again. I still have yet to find any animation that is as imaginative or otherworldy. Because I have watched it so many times, I am sure it will have a lasting influence on my own art. It is my favorite anime feature and probably my favorite animted feature of all time. I love its strong use of color, its simple but beautiful geometric character designs and the simple but beautiful way it dramatizes the fight between good and evil.
I also think it can be a deceiving anime - Unico's character design is so cute that many people believe it is nothing more than a girly anime. Its themes are quite deep and they are presented through a plot that is simplified to perfection. It also has one of the most terrifying, tyrannical and cruel villians I've ever seen portrayed in any film - Lord Kuruku.
