Secret of NIMH
Home/Change Series
The Secret of NIMH and All Dogs Go to Heaven are my favorite western animated features of all time. I can't decide which one is my favorite, but I think the Secret of NIMH is more well done and less commercial. It was Don Bluth's first feature film made after he left Disney. Actually they started working on it while Bluth and his rebel animators were still working on Disney films. When Don Bluth came to the Savannah College of Art and Design to speak to us animation majors, he told stories about what it was like to make The Secret of NIMH. He said the animators all worked so hard on it, usually well into the night and often just fell asleep at their desks in exaustion. When they were finally finished with the film they all sat down to watch it together and everyone ws just in tears! Don Bluth says that it will always be his favorite out of all the movies he's ever made, because he had more creative control over it than he had on the others.
